AC Hotels by Marriott Downtown Ottawa

Who Should Attend?

Professionals working in engagement, impact assessment, regulatory affairs, and communications across the nuclear project ecosystem.

Why Attend?

Understand Evolving Regulatory Expectations

This workshop will provides insight into the growing regulatory emphasis on social performance, engagement, and inclusivity within the nuclear sector. Regulators increasingly expect organizations to demonstrate meaningful dialogue with diverse communities, transparent communication, and integration of GBA+ considerations into project planning and decision‑making. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada will overview their GBA+ expectations for panel level reviews and provide insights for practitioners. By participating, you will gain a clearer understanding of these expectations and learn practical approaches to meeting current regulatory standards.

Expand Inclusive Engagement

Discover practical strategies to bring new voices into critical conversations. Many groups may feel they lack the time, knowledge, or confidence to participate. Others may be influenced by 'not in my backyard' (NIMBY) concerns or anti‑nuclear sentiment. Together, we will explore approaches to meaningfully involve diverse communities in dialogue.

GBA+ aspects of Impact Assessment requirements matter for nuclear projects, yet many practitioners are still navigating what “good” looks like in practice, and others are only beginning to understand what GBA+ is and why it matters.

The workshop will feature practical case studies, lessons learned, and hands-on application of GBA+, drawing on Calian’s expertise in policy and Impact Assessment. Participants will be in able to share experience and get insights from peers and experts.

Wild Matriarch will introduce Social OPEX™ (Social Operating Experience), a new concept that applies nuclear Operating Experience (OPEX) principles to externally focused activities that shape project reputation, risk, and social licence.

The workshop will also lay the groundwork for a new community of practice focused on sharing experience and strengthening trust and social performance across projects and organizations.
